News – July 25, 2024

(Juneau) The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office will be cracking down on speeders later this month. The agency will be joining law enforcement officers throughout the Midwest on July 31st in this year’s Speed Awareness Day campaign. The speed awareness campaign has a twofold approach: to combine increased zero-tolerance enforcement with effective communication to road users on the importance of obeying the speed limit.

(Beaver Dam) The Beaver Dam Police Department has come forward with some clarifying statements about low-speed vehicles on main roads. Lieutenant Jeremiah Johnson says in order to operate those types of vehicles, you will still need to follow an approval process from the DMV and the operator must have their license and a registered plate.

(Columbus) The Columbus City Council recently discussed the possibility of a stormwater utility referendum next April at a recent meeting. Administrator Matt Amundson says that the city has been receiving inquiries about stormwater funding and other projects following recent flooding in the area. The matter will be discussed further at future committee meetings. 

(Lebanon) The 92nd annual Lebanon Fireman’s Picnic begins tomorrow (Friday). The three-day event kicks off with a fish fry being served from 4:30pm to 9pm at Lebanon Fireman’s Park located on Country Highway R. The free shuttle bus from Watertown to Lebanon will run from 4pm to 12:15am on Saturday. Busses will be running on a half-hour rotating basis from Watertown. The annual picnic is a fund-raiser for the Lebanon Volunteer Fire Department.

(Wisconsin) The Wisconsin State Fair is set to return next week. This year, State Fair CEO Shari Black says they will be celebrating a major milestone for one of their well-known treats. She says this year marks the 100th year of the cream puff and there will be unique flavors offered. The Wisconsin State Fair runs from August 1st through the 11th in West Allis.
