(Juneau) Dodge County investigators say cold cases can be frustrating, especially when the perpetrator is known but the evidence is lacking. Bob Neuman with the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office told us recently on WBEV’s Community Comment that solving a cold case is about finding the right information at the right time, which does not always happen right away. The sheriff’s office keeps track of all their cold cases, which get monitored regularly and re-opened based on resources and tips. Advancements in evidence collection and DNA analysis has been crucial in solving many cold cases.

(Fond du Lac) A traffic stop on U.S. Highway 151 in Fond du Lac County last week resulted in the seizure of 10 pounds of high-grade marijuana, a variety of other drugs, over $21,000 in cash and a loaded 9 millimeter handgun. The traffic stop was the culmination of a joint investigation involving the Lake Winnebago Area MEG Unit and Sheriff’s Offices from Fond du Lac and Winnebago Counties. The vehicle was also seized and the driver arrested on drug and weapon charges. Winnebago County Sheriff John Matz says, “One of the key elements to fight our overdose and addiction issues are the arrest and conviction of drug dealers.”

(Oshkosh) The ribbon was cut yesterday on the EAA’s new education center, which is the first expansion to the Aviation Center in Oshkosh in more than 20 years. The $6.2 million, two-story addition – commonly known as Project 21 – will provide aviation training and education to all ages. The ground floor will house the Pilot Proficiency Center, which opens the week of AirVenture, featuring 16 flight simulators. The Youth Education Center on the second floor will allow students in person or online to learn about aviation and even how to design and build simple forms of aircraft like paper airplanes.

(Beaver Dam) A public involvement meeting is Thursday for a street resurfacing project in Beaver Dam that is planned for next summer. The city is currently working with MSA Professional Services and state transportation officials to resurface the existing pavement on Frances Lane from Gateway Drive to North Crystal Lake Road. The open house-format meeting tomorrow is from 6pm to 7pm at City Hall. Representatives from the city and project design staff will be on hand.

(Juneau) The Dodge County Treasurer’s Office is encouraging residents to get their second installment tax payments in. County Treasurer Patty Hilker says there are several ways to pay. Citizens can send in their payments by mail, drop them off in person at the county’s Administration Building in Juneau, or pay online or by calling 800-272-9829 with the jurisdiction code #5936.
