(Beaver Dam) Beaver Dam has a new mayor. Council President Mike Wissell was unanimously appointed to fill Becky Glewen’s vacated seat during this week’s common council meeting. Wissell, who will give up his District 13 seat, was serving as council president. The council also plans to approve a special election during the fall vote to fill the remaining year and five months left in Glewen’s term. That cannot be done until their April 15th meeting, that’s because a special election must be designated 122 to 92 days prior to a primary for that election.

(Beaver Dam) The Beaver Dam Community Action Plan is an initiative that is part of the comprehensive plan update that will shape the future of the city for the next 10 years. City Administrator Nathan Thiel says that nearly fifty people have signed up or are actively participating in the committees. He says that the diversity in backgrounds and demographics reflects the Beaver Dam community.

(Waupun) A failed light fixture caused a fire at Prairie Ridge Assisted Living Center in Waupun. Fire Chief B.J. DeMaa says his department was called to the facility just before 7pm Monday. While en route, crews learned that a Waupun police officer used an extinguisher to put out a ceiling light that had been burning. Once the fire was confirmed out, ventilation was started to clear smoke from the building. No injuries were reported and all residents were allowed to return to their rooms for the evening.

(Horicon) A Milwaukee man accused of running from Horicon police has made his initial appearance in court. Roy Morgan allegedly fled police after getting clocked speeding last month. His vehicle eventually lost control in a gravel parking lot due to wet and slushy conditions, according to the complaint. If convicted, the 32-year-old faces three-and-a-half years in prison. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for tomorrow (Thursday).
