(Dodge County) A facility study for schools in the Beaver Dam School District has revealed important findings. With safety as a priority, renovation or even new construction is in consideration for Washington Elementary and the middle school. The district will be having community informational meetings and an open house to continue conversations about local school renovations in late February and early March. (Columbus) The Columbus City Council approved an amendment to the agreement with the Columbus Rural Fire Group and to purchase a fire truck to replace Engine 92 at a recent meeting. The amendment to the current contract states that all municipalities must sign off on the purchase before it is finalized. City Treasurer Crystal Larson attended the recent Rural Fire Group meeting and says all municipalities in attendance approve the amendment and purchase of the fire truck. President of the Rural Fire Group told the council he will be rounding up the remaining signatures and have everything wrapped up by today (Monday).

(Beaver Dam) An effort to upgrade Beaver Dam’s pickleball courts recently received a donation. Larsen Family Dental made a contribution of $5,000 towards the project. Dr. Andrea Larsen, a 2003 graduate of Beaver Dam High School, and her husband – Jon – are avid pickleball players themselves and are excited for the opportunity to be part of this project. The project is a joint effort of the city, a dedicated group of local volunteers, and the Beaver Dam Area Community Foundation to upgrade the current Athletic Field Park pickleball courts into a top-notch outdoor facility. (Columbia County) The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is holding a public involvement meeting to cover a resurfacing project in Columbia County. Officials with the department say work includes making improvements to approximately .67-miles of Highway 33 and extends from the Wisconsin River to Highway 16 in Portage. The meeting is scheduled for this Wednesday (February 28th) from 4:30pm to 6:30pm in the Bidwell Room at the Portage Public Library.

(Dodge County) Registration is open for The Arc of Dodge County’s special Pig Pals event. Pig Pals takes place on the last day of the Dodge County fair, where an Arc Member or person with different physical or mental abilities teams up with a swine exhibitor. The participants learn how to care for and walk the pig in a show ring. The first year of the event only had six participants. This year has a necessary entrant cap of 20. There will also be a large safety staff on hand.
