(Dodge County) Dodge County UW extension is reaching out to Wisconsin farmers regarding testing out a potential new cover crop to enrich soil. It is called winter camelina and has been around for thousands of years, but the utilization of it as a cover crop is a newfound concept. The on-farm experiment will test to see if the potential cover crop can keep nitrate in and around surrounding soil to enrich planting conditions. (Dodge County) A couple of Dodge County residents were part of the Wisconsin National Guard’s 51st Challenge Academy graduating class. Aiden Simpson of Juneau and Matthew Behling (bell-ing) of Lowell joined 98 other cadets from 32 other counties during the ceremony. The Challenge Academy helps adults in jeopardy of not graduating high school learn the values, skills, education and self-discipline to successfully transition to adulthood.
(Juneau) A number of area sheriff’s offices including Dodge County’s received grant funds from the Office of Emergency Communications. The office recently announced the awarding of 19 grant projects totaling $5,611,235 in state funding to local dispatch centers across the state. Dodge County received $375,470 which will allow the agency to rehab its backup dispatch center in Beaver Dam.
(Beaver Dam) In honor of their 60th season, the Beaver Dam Area Community Theater will be hosting a series of events to celebrate. Among the events will be an ABBA tribute called ABBA-Mania for music lovers. Managing Director David Alan Smith says the tribute can come to Beaver Dam because of a generous donation, otherwise a band like them could not come. (Beaver Dam) The city of Beaver Dam is conducting a feasibility study to explore the idea of implementing a mass transit system with the help of SRF Consulting. City Administrator Nathan Thiel says the consulting firm will evaluate the city’s taxi system and determine if another transit system is necessary. He adds the study would be put together over the next half year and be completed around May or June in line with the Community Action Plan.
