(Lomira) The governor visited the Lomira School District Wednesday as part of his statewide back-to-school tour. Tony Evers met with staff, teachers, and students who officially started the 2023-2024 school year on Tuesday. Evers says the beginning of a new school year is exciting and called Lomira a “great school district.” The 2023-2025 biennial budget signed by Evers this past summer includes an overall increase of nearly $1.2-billion-dollars in spendable authority for public school districts. That amount is more than ten times larger than the previous two-year state budget.
(Beaver Dam) Tuesday night’s races at Beaver Dam raceway were canceled due to a medical issue. According to officials with the Raceway, the medical emergency involved Larry Richards who is the driver of the 11R street stock. Richards was taken to the hospital after being treated by medical staff on site. Officials say, as of Wednesday afternoon, Richards is in stable condition. They add that they ask for continued thoughts and prayers for Richards and his family. More details may be released at a later time if additional information becomes available.
(Beaver Dam) Area police and fire were dispatched to Highway 151 near exit 129 in the city of Beaver Dam Wednesday morning. Initial reports indicate that a fire had started within the cargo of a semi traveling southbound on HWY 151. The semi, which was hauling garbage pulled off the highway at exit 129 where a portion of the contents of the trailer were dumped in order to facilitate putting out the fire. No injuries or additional details have been made available at this time.
(Fond du Lac) Fond du Lac County Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt says a Fond du Lac man is fortunate he was able to call 911 after his paraglider crash landed in a cornfield in the Town of Taycheedah Monday evening. The Sheriff says the 34-year-old broke both legs and it is incredible as badly injured as he was that he could make an emergency call. Deputies used GPS from the man’s phone to pinpoint where he was. First responders were able to get to the man. A ThedaStar helicopter flew him to ThedaCare Regional Medical Center in Neenah.
(Beaver Dam) ESPN Beaver Dam is set to launch a new local programming lineup. Premiering September 11th, the lineup will include ESPN Radio’s new morning show hosted by Good Karma Brands’ Evan Cohen – on-air host with ESPN West Palm – along with Michelle Smallmon and Chris Canty. The revamped schedule also includes a new show airing from 2pm to 5pm called ‘Kyle, Brust, & Nortman.’ ‘The Homer Hour’ will debut from 5pm to 6pm featuring Emmy award winner Steve ‘The Homer’ True.
