(Beaver Dam) The Beaver Dam Fire Department has the only dive team in Dodge County. Fire Chief Michael Wesle says it is key for its members to stay up-to-date on current practices and conduct trainings when necessary. He says the team recently did training in a local retention pond, which is new this year.  Wesle says these trainings also help the dive team be prepared if they are called by local police or the sheriff’s office to help search for lost items in bodies of water.

(Columbus) Mayor Joe Hammer read a proclamation for Captain Jake Bisbee of the Columbus Fire Department who retired in January after 18 years of service. Monona Fire Department First Assistant Chief Dan Eklof says Bisbee was a very brave firefighter especially during a structure fire in 2017. Bisbee and another experienced firefighter at the department fought the fire behind a bulletproof shield while an individual inside was returning fire with law enforcement. The assistant chief says the individual was ultimately apprehended and the house was lost, but not burned down.

(Theresa) The DNR recently announced a drawdown for the Theresa Marsh Wildlife Area. Officials say the drawdown is necessary to complete construction and repairs on the wildlife area’s main dike, which impounds approximately 1,500 acres of water. The one-mile-long dike and associated dam, first constructed in 1968, are located at the outlet of the East Branch of the Rock River on the northwest side of the property. Water reduction began mid-July, and water levels will be lowered gradually until a full drawdown is achieved in late August.
