As the 2021 school year approaches Wayland Academy looks forward to another group of students arriving from around the globe to work hard in the classroom, and also in athletic competition.
The Big Red has a new leader in their athletic department this year with the hiring of Josh Blumenthal. He brings a plethora of experience at both the high school and collegiate level to Wayland. His most recent position was Associate Athletic Director at St. Andrew’s School in Austin, Texas. This is his family’s first venture in the state of Wisconsin.
“The word nice keeps coming around and around. People are just very caring here. Very nice.” Blumenthal said. “People have been so supportive at Wayland of the athletic department and what I’m trying to bring and subsequently outside in the community with our children and their endeavors and my wife and her endeavors. People have been so outwardly nice and accommodating and has made the transition a lot smoother than we first thought it would be.”
Blumenthal, a Long Island, New York native, told DailyDodge.com that he’s excited to be a part of raising awareness around the community about the exciting things Big Red student are achieving. “I think it’s a situation like where I came here not knowing anything about anything, and I went and saw some of these building and this school. I’m like this is a really nice school. We need to get people to set foot on campus though athletics through different promotional events…Just getting the message out there that we are a great school, and we are running a great athletic program, but we are having fun here too and want you to be a part of it.”
Some of the community events Wayland has planned around athletics this year include such events as “Pups at the Pitch” for soccer, and “Dig Pink” for volleyball.
Blumenthal also has an extensive background in the sport of the lacrosse, coaching at the prep and college level. He hopes to help grow the game at Wayland and the state of Wisconsin.
Students are scheduled to arrive on campus on August 15th with orientation and on August 16th they meet with their student athletes for the first time.
