New State Grant Available To Help Firefighter Youth Training Programs

(Dodge County) The Department of Safety and Professional Services recently announced the opening of a new grant program to provide funding for youth firefighter training programs. The grants of up to $25,000 are designed to help fire departments, technical college partners and school districts develop or expand training programs for high school juniors or seniors.

Finding those interested in pursuing a career in firefighting has been challenge across the state and in Dodge County. The Clyman, Lowell, and Reeseville Fire Departments recently merged into one entity over struggles to maintain adequate staffing levels. The grant program has funding to award $50,000 this year and $50,000 next year to help establish or expand programs across Wisconsin. Applications are due by February 14th.
