(Beaver Dam) There is a new face on the city of Beaver Dam’s Police and Fire Commission. Michael Stephens was appointed by the mayor to the five-person commission.
Stephens is a paramedic and a former member of the Beaver Dam Fire Department. In Beaver Dam, the mayor has the authority to appoint a member of the Police and Fire Commission without council approval.
A non-binding, advisory vote was conducted at Monday night’s council meeting and there were seven dissenting votes. Those who voted against the appointment expressed concerns about Stephens previous work with the department.
Stephens replaces Maria Lopez who resigned after being seated in November. The term runs through May of 2026.
