New Mayville School Board Member Resigns After Election

(Mayville) A Mayville school board member is stepping down one month after being elected. During Monday night’s meeting, District Administrator Scott Sabol announced that Tom Kempf has decided to resign from the position. Kempf unseated incumbent Ronald Andes during the spring election.

Kempf tells us that he met with Sabol and told him he did not feel that he was school board material. He added that there are things that are required of a school board member that he felt he was not capable of doing. Kempf has spent the last two years serving the district as a crossing guard during both the morning and evening shifts. He says that he plans on doing it again next year as well as throughout summer school. Kempf says he would rather deal with the kids than some of things the school board has to handle. Sabol says the district will search for a replacement once the resignation is approved during the next school board meeting.

Also during last night’s meeting, the school board elected their board president. There was little change at the top as incumbent School Board President John Westphal was reelected to the position. Richard Fink will once again serve as vice president and Dave Ognenoff returns as clerk. Jim Congdon withstood a challenge from Joe Hohmann for the position of treasurer. Congdon was reelected following a ballot vote by the school board.
