(Juneau) A new development in the multi-phase creation of the Gold Star Memorial Trail will now make it easier for area residents to donate directly to its creation. On a recent WBEV’s Community Comment, President of Friends of Dodge County Parks Inc. Glen Daily shared a progress update in the trails funding process saying they have partnered with the Beaver Dam Area Community Foundation with the creation of the Gold Star Memorial Trail Fund.
Currently only phase one of the trail has been completed running from Mayville’s Theiler Park to the Horicon Marsh which opened in June of 2019. Daily explains that phase 2 would upgrade the walking trail through the marsh to match the ten-foot wide asphalt paved trail already established. The cost for this is estimated at around $1.2-million and will hopefully be funded in part by matching grants currently being applied for. The final phase of the project would see the trail continue from Horicon to Votech Park in Beaver Dam, at an additional estimated cost of nearly $2-million. Daily explained that this process will not happen overnight and estimates that it could be late 2022 or early 2023 before they are able to break ground on the next phase of construction.
The timeline will depend on funding availability, and engineering plans all coming together. Those looking to donate to the Gold Star Memorial Trail can find more information at the Beaver Dam Area Community Foundation’s website at https://beaverdamacf.com/becomeadonor.html
