New Beginnings Homeless Shelter Helping Men, Women

8/11/17 – A local non-profit is here to help those who find themselves without a place to call home. New Beginnings Homeless Shelter provides temporary housing to Dodge County residents. The organization operates two shelters, one for men located near the former Saint Michaels and another for women located near First Lutheran Church. Father Michael Irwin, who led the effort to open the men’s shelter, says there are wide ranging circumstances that can leave someone homeless such as job loss, unforeseen disabilities, or relationship problems. He says having a place where up to six or seven people and their families can stay allows them to attack the problem in the most cost efficient way. New Beginnings usually keeps individual’s in residence for roughly 30 days to allow them time to get back on their feet.  Member Nancy Welsch says they help with rent, utilities, clothes, and food. A music festival fundraiser is planned for the group tomorrow at Beaver Dam’s Swan City Park. Arrangements to use the shelter can be made through Central Wisconsin Community Action Council.
