(Beaver Dam) A local non-profit was selected to benefit from the Modern Woodmen 2018 Impact Event. Representatives from the Southwest Wisconsin Region were asked several months ago to nominate an organization that could be the beneficiary from their regional event. Local Modern Woodmen Volunteer Leader Cassandra Schmidt says she chose the New Beginnings Homeless Shelter of Dodge County. Schmidt says it was her vision to get a play set from the women’s/family shelter and that she wanted the shelter to feel like a home to the kids that stay there. Since the New Beginnings Homeless Shelter opened in 2007 it had had over 4,500 shelter nights for children. Schmidt says events like this give members an opportunity to make a difference. Modern Woodmen is a tax-exempt fraternal benefit society that sells life insurance, annuity and investment products not to benefit stockholders but to improve quality of life for its members, families and their communities.
