Beaver Dam High School freshman McKenna Nelson shot a one over par 73 to hold sole possession of 4th place after the first round of the WIAA Division One State Girls Golf Tournament at University Ridge on Monday in Madison.
Nelson was two over par after a front nine 38 with bogeys on #2 and #9. Birdies on #11 and #14 on the back coupled with a bogey on #12 left her with a one-under par 35 on the back nine.
Nelson is two shots behind co-leaders Izzi Stricker of Waunakee and Payton Haugen of Brookfield East who carded one-under par 71s. Westosha Central’s Kylie Walker had an even par 72 to claim 3rd place after one round.
The 2nd and final round is set for Tuesday.
