(Beaver Dam) Area veterans or their loved ones can recognize their service by adding their name to a local monument. Since 2004, around 1,400 military members have had their names engraved on the Beaver Dam Veterans Memorial located at Oakwood Cemetery.
Memorial Park Committee member Paul Lauth says the honor is available for any veteran no matter which branch they served or if they left the country or not. He says they do require the veterans discharge papers or the DD Form 214. Lauth says other ways of verifying could include a photo or testimony from someone who served with the veteran. If an interested person does not have the DD Form 214 they can contact the Dodge County Veterans Service Office at 920-386-3798.
The cost is $200 which covers the engraving and expenses to upkeep the memorial. Lauth says local veteran service groups are available if funds are short for some veterans and their families. He says those include the American Legion, VFW or AMVETS. The deadline to submit the application form is April 29. For more information call 920-887-8247.
