Mustskis Look To Top 2018 Performance At Regionals

(Beaver Dam) The Beaverland Mustskis water ski team is competing at regionals this weekend, but it may be a challenge to top last year’s performance which featured a special guest star. Charlie Berens, host of the Manitowoc Minute, expressed interest in skiing with the group while working with Ron Wilkie for a show at the Beaver Dam Community Theatre. Wilkie, who is with both the Mustskis and the theatre troupe, says he reached out to Berens’ publicist to invite the Milwaukee-native to their regional tournament.

Wilkie says he did his best to keep Berens’ guest appearance under wraps, but it did not take long for someone to recognize him. He says the only ones who knew of Berens involvement was the Mustskis show director and the board of directors. However, a Mustskis performer quickly noticed the comedian.

Wilkie says the crowd erupted when they realized it was Charlie Berens, especially the beer tent. He says there was a line of about 100 people outside their trailer once the audience was aware that the Mustskis had Berens.

Wilkie says Berens stuck around for everyone who wanted an autograph or a photo with him. He adds that they were the highest scoring comedy act during last year’s tournament. This year’s regionals run through Sunday at Lake Wazeecha in Wisconsin Rapids. Berens recent comedy road show – Da Oh My Gosh Tour – featured a video segment of him learning how to ski on Beaver Dam Lake.
