(Beaver Dam) Moraine Park Technical College has announced a collaboration between two of the schools ongoing education programs. The partnership involves the institutions Early Childhood Education and Cosmetology programs coming together to learn about hair care techniques for children with ethnic hair. Spurred on by Early Childhood Education student Monica Dreifuerst, who is employed at a childcare center, the program seeks to teach students how to detangle, braid, twist and style the hair with elastics. Anne Paradies, an Early Childhood Education instructor, says often when they care for children it involves grooming their hair throughout the day, adding It’s important that the future educators are prepared to care for all hair types. Dreifuerst adds, (quote) “We take the children swimming often, and that requires some hair maintenance afterwards.” She loves “doing the kids hair,” but realized quicky she didn’t know the best way to care for textured hair. Monica Adds, she never wants any of the children to feel left out, so she was really driven to learn. Moraine Park has campuses in Fond du Lac, West Bend, and Beaver Dam.
