(Ixonia) A motorist was injured Thursday afternoon in Jefferson County while trying to beat a train. The incident occurred at 1:34pm on County Highway F, just south of Marietta Avenue in the town of Ixonia. Sheriff Paul Milbrath says the preliminary investigation at the scene, and a witness’s statement, indicates that the vehicle was heading southbound on County F when it tried to cross the tracks while the railroad crossing arms were down. The driver did not make it in time and was struck by an eastbound Amtrak train. The lone occupant of the vehicle was transported to a local hospital for medical care. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Ixonia Fire and EMS.
