(Beaver Dam) A Milwaukee man made his initial appearance in court Friday on charges he lead authorities on a pursuit across Dodge County. Justin Carter-Smith is facing a felony count of Fleeing. On Thursday (November 5th), the Columbus Police Department notified the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office of a theft complaint within the city. Shortly after, the suspected vehicle was located in Beaver Dam and police along with sheriff’s deputies engaged in a pursuit. The chase was called off due to speed but was picked up again when police in Fox Lake located the vehicle in the city. Again the pursuit was called off due to high speeds, only to begin again when the car entered Waupun by local police and sheriff’s deputies. As the vehicle attempted a turn on Jefferson Street it struck a curb which disabled it. The driver, reportedly identified as Carter-Smith, fled on foot while a passenger was taken into custody at the scene. The 32-year-old was later apprehended a few blocks away. When questioned, Carter-Smith allegedly admitted to taking a bottle of liquor from a store in Columbus. A search of the vehicle reportedly turned up numerous bottles of unopened liquor. If convicted, Carter-Smith faces no more than three-and-a-half years in prison. Cash bond was set at $2,500 and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for November 19th.
