Milwaukee Humane Society Reporting Distemper

10/15/11 – The Wisconsin Humane Society confirms reports that canine distemper virus has killed more than two dozen dogs at the Milwaukee area shelter. Dog adoptions have been halted to keep the disease from spreading. About 70 dogs are being monitored at the shelter right now. Distemper has an incubation period of six weeks, meaning the humane society shelter will be impacted for the length of time. There are dogs available for adoption at the society’s Ozaukee campus in Saukville. Cats are not affected and distemper isn’t transmitted to human beings.
