Michigan Man Arrested For Driving The Wrong Way On I-41 From The Dodge/Fond Du Lac County Line

(Fond du Lac County) Fond du Lac County authorities arrested a Michigan man Thursday for driving the wrong way while drunk on I-41. Authorities began receiving calls just after 2am that a vehicle was travelling northbound in the southbound lanes of I-41 from the Dodge/Fond du Lac County line.

Deputies spotted the vehicle and began driving parallel to it in the northbound lane with emergency lights and sirens activated, in attempts to get the operator to notice they were driving the wrong way. A deputy radioed ahead to other responding squads north of their location who positioned themselves to block the interstate.

A sheriff’s sergeant moved his squad to the left lane at I-41 and South Hickory Road. The wrong way driver slowed but did not stop and struck the front driver’s side of the squad. After the impact, the vehicle travelled partially into the medium and stopped. A 61-year-old man from Manistee was taken into custody.

He had difficulties standing and registered four times the legal limit during a preliminary breath test. The man told deputies he thought he was almost home. The Wisconsin State Patrol is investigating. There were no injuries reported.
