Mayville To Revisit Police Chief Contract

10/10/17 – Mayville officials have reversed a recent decision and will now reconsider an employment contract with Acting Police Chief Ryan Vossekuil. The Common Council voted unanimously last night on a motion made by Alderwoman Molly Henkel to reopen contractual discussions with the 15-year veteran of the Mayville police force. Last month, Vossekuil rejected a contract offer from the city indicating that the terms were not fair. Two weeks ago, the citizen’s group Voices for Vossekuil presented the city’s Public Safety Committee with an online petition with over 800 signatures asking that Vossekuil be reconsidered. Mayor Rob Boelk says it was important to listen to the public’s request. He says going forward, he hopes that Vossekuil is more willing to try and hash out a contract. Vossekuil did not comment. Boelk says the topic will be brought back during next month’s council meeting. The vacancy was created when former Chief Chris MacNeill resigned in March amidst allegations that he altered documents in 2011 to get the son of a former Mayville police officer into the army.
