Mayville Police Warn Area Residents Of Scam Involving Their Department

(Mayville) The Mayville Police Department is warning area residents of a scam involving their agency. citizen received a call from a phone number with a local area code who said they were Officer Sarah Schultz with Mayville police. The individual reported to authorities that the caller was giving them specific instructions on how to handle an urgent police matter. The Mayville Police Department say they do not have an officer named Sarah Schultz on staff. They add that the call was likely computer-generated from overseas trying to scam people out of money. Anyone who believes they are being scammed over an alleged unpaid traffic citation or other court-imposed financial obligation can ask the caller for specific information about the supposed warrant. The caller should have the court case number, date of ticket, and vehicle license number. The public can also call or stop in at their local police department to talk with an officer.
