Mayville Police Department Bringing Back Its Citizens Academy

(Mayville) The Mayville Police Department is bringing back its Citizens Police Academy. The classes will consist of use of force, defense and arrest tactics, traffic stops, OWI, crime scenes, firearms, among others. Participants will also be able to ride along with an officer and get an inside look to operations of a police department.

Detective Scott Petrack says they want to give the citizens of Mayville an opportunity to learn some aspects of their job as well as how and why they do things. He says this class allows them to offer residents the hands-on experience from the Mayville Police Department.

The academy will meet every Thursday night from March 30th to June 1st, for a total of 10 weeks. The classes will be from 6pm to 9pm on most nights, but can be adjusted if the schedule warrants it. Only 12 people will be selected to join and applicants must be 18-years of age and live or work in the city.

Applications can be picked up at the Mayville Police Department at 25 South School Street and can be downloaded from the agency’s website, click HERE to visit the site. The deadline to apply is March 1st.
