Mayville Nursing Home Evacuated

8/10/17 – The residents of a Mayville nursing home were evacuated Tuesday after smoke triggered fire alarms. The incident started just before 8am at the Crossroads Care Center on South Clark Street. Fire Chief Brad Marx says he and police units arrived to find smoke and the smell burning plastic. Marx says responders got to work immediately evacuating the 39 residents and tracking down the source of the smoke. The cause was traced back to a malfunctioning motor in the heating and cooling system. There were no injuries. The smoke was confined to the north wing and ventilation was not required. Gas meters were used in clearing the building before residents were allowed back in.  Marx says it only took a few minutes to evacuate the facility and the residents were displaced for about 75 minutes. The scene was cleared in around two hours. Mayville received mutual assistance from departments in Theresa, Kekoskee, Horicon, Iron Ridge and Hustisford.
