Mayville Man Sentenced To Prison For Assault

(Mayville) A Mayville man convicted of raping a minor was sentenced to seven years in prison Tuesday. In October, Jose Romeo Ibarra-Ovalle entered a no contest plea to felony counts of Second Degree Sexual Assault of a Child and Repeated Sexual Assault of the Same Child. The 42-year-old was arrested in June after the victim’s family contacted authorities as he attempted to overdose on blood pressure medicine. The offenses occurred on at least five occasions in the city of Mayville dating back to last year. He was apparently drinking at the time of the latest incident and told authorities that he was lonely. Ibarra-Ovalle confessed to investigators admitting that his actions were illegal and immoral though he denied the most recent allegation. In addition to prison, Ibarra-Ovalle was placed on extended supervision for 10 years.
