The Mayville High School football team heads to McFarland tonight for a WIAA Division Five State Semifinal matchup with Prairie du Chien. The Cardinals (12-0) rolled up 385 rushing yards in their 44-0 quarterfinal win over Racine Lutheran. Prairie du Chien (10-2) have ripped off 10 straight wins after dropping their first two games of the season.
The game features two teams with powerful running games. Mayville’s Blake Schraufnagel has rushed for the 4th most yards in the state with 2205. His 35 rushing touchdowns is tied for 3rd most in Wisconsin. Prairie du Chien has a pair of 1000 yard rushers in Rhett Koenig (1008 yards, and 10 TDs) & Ty Wagner (1128 yards & 16 TDs).
Friday night’s kickoff is set for 7pm. The winner will face either Aquinas or Kewaunee in the Division Five State Championship Game next Thursday at 5pm.
Aquinas edged Mayville 28-26 in the 2021 D5 title game.
