Mayville High School Hires New Boys & Girls Basketball Coaches

The Mayville School Board approved the hiring of new boys and girls varsity basketball coaches at Mayville High School on Monday night.

Zach Jahns (upper left photo) has been hired as the Cardinals new varsity boys basketball coach.  Jahns played for his father, Todd at Kettle Moraine Lutheran (2010 gradudate), then played in college at Wisconsin Lutheran.  He has coached with his father Todd at KML, and also worked as an assistant with Ryan Walz at Wisconsin Lutheran High School before most recently coaching at Brookfield Academy.  This will be his 1st head coaching position.

Mayville Athletic Director Tom Noennig says “Zach impressed our hiring committee with his passion, experience, and vision for the program.  He has demonstrated success both as player and coach, having had the opportunity to work with and assist some of the best coaches in Southeast Wisconsin.  We are fortunate to hire him and I look forward to working with him to build his staff.”

Speaking for the hiring committee Noennig added, “We are extremely pleased with this hire. Coach Jahns brings passion, knowledge, and a defensive mindset to our program.  Our kids will be very excited to play for him.  We are excited to see Coach Jahns continue building our program and take it to new levels of success.”

John Schultz (upper right photo) was also named the new varsity girls basketball coach. Schultz has coached both boys and girls in the Mayville community for nearly 20 years.  He has spent the last eight seasons working as the head JV coach for the boys program.  He has also coached numerous youth teams in the area.

Noennig says “John is a proven leader and coach and has clearly demonstrated high expectations for players and programs he has been involved with.  It is rare to find the experience and knowledge that John possesses and we are fortunate to have him aboard.  Coach Schultz is working with the administration to build his coaching staff and to develop a plan to increase participation, while maintaining a competitive, successful program.”

Jahns replaces Matt Hurtienne while Schultz takes over Liz Cook.  Both stepped down for personal reasons after this past season.
