Marshall High School senior Laura Nickel announced via Twitter over the weekend that she has verbally committed to play NCAA Division One college basketball at Northern Illinois in the Mid-American Conference.
During her junior campaign Nickel averaged 15.6 point, 8.4 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game. She connected on 35% of her three-point attempts. Nickel was named Division Three Honorable Mention All-State by the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association after the 2019-20 season. Nickel was also a 1st Team All-Capitol South selection last season. She garnered 2nd Team all-league honors after her sophomore and freshman campaigns.
During her three seasons on the varsity squad, the Cardinals have gone 74-8 including a perfect 30-0 mark in Capitol South play. Marshall won back to back WIAA Division Three State championships in 2018 and 2019.
Wissports.net reports that Nickel also had Division One scholarship offers from IUPUI, Western Illinois and Division II offers from Illinois Springfield, St. Cloud State, University of Mary and Winona State.
