Markesan Boys Face Palmyra-Eagle In D4 Sectional Semifinal Thursday Night

The Markesan (19-5) boys basketball team is back at the Sectionals for the 1st time since 2016.   The Trailways West co-champs will travel to Oconomowoc on Thursday for Sectional Semifinal matchup with Trailways South champion Palmyra-Eagle (21-3) at 7pm.

The Hornet have won eight straight games heading into Thursday’s game, including wins over Williams Bay 55-51 and Pardeeville 58-48 in the Regionals last weekend.  John Koopman’s squad is led by a veteran group of four seniors who have been carrying the load offensively all season long.  Ethan Augustynowicz (14), Bryson Zuhlke (13), Max Stellmacher (12), and Christian Schwandt (12) all average in double figures.

Palmyra-Eagle was a perfect 12-0 in Trailways South play this season.  They knocked off Cambridge 59-54 and Deerfield 57-40 in the Regionals last weekend.  Junior Aiden Calderon leads the Panthers in scoring at 22 points per game.  Danny Hammond is the only other player to average in double-figures at 16 points per game.

The winner of Thursday night’s game will head to the Sectional Final at Middleton on Saturday night against either Darlington or Cuba City.
