Marinette Marine Combat Ship Christened In September

5/6/12 – The latest Navy combat ship that was built in Marinette will be christened on September 22nd. House Republican Jim Sensenbrenner says Marinette Marine is scheduled to deliver the U-S-S Fort Worth in June, and it will be christened in Galveston Texas. Last month, Marinette and Lockheed Martin put the boat through a series of tests involving its ship-handling, engines, and auxiliary systems. Weapons tests are not allowed on the Great Lakes under U-S and Canadian treaties, so they’ll wait until the 380-foot boat makes its first ocean voyage. Meanwhile, employees at Marinette Marine are currently working on another littoral combat ship, the U-S-S Milwaukee. Two other ships will be built after that, the Little Rock and the Sioux City.
