Madison Woman Makes Initial Appearance In Court On Charges Of Fleeing Beaver Dam Police

(Beaver Dam) A Madison woman charged with running from Beaver Dam police made her initial appearance in court this week. Mariela Munoz is facing a felony count of Fleeing. An officer observed a vehicle traveling in excess of the 25-mile-per-hour speed limit on South University Avenue last Friday (June 4th). When the officer engaged their emergency lights, the vehicle accelerated away at a high rate of speed. The pursuit continued on Stone Street where police reportedly clocked the vehicle going 60-miles-per-hour. The chase ended near Myrtle Road, Munoz was allegedly identified as the driver. When questioned, Munoz reportedly said she ran because she was scared due to recent high-profile events involving the police. If convicted, the 21-year-old faces three-and-a-half years in prison. A signature bond was set at $1,000 and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 15th.
