(Beaver Dam) A longtime Beaver Dam administrator has announced his retirement. John Somers (pictured left) has spent 23 years with the city. He was hired as Finance Director in 1996 and now holds the title of Director of Administration. In a statement, Somers offered thanks to everyone he has had the pleasure to work with over the years, saying that he appreciates the assistance, advice and guidance in helping him serve the citizens of Beaver Dam. Somers worked under five mayors: Steve Sabatke, Tom Olson, Jack Hankes, Tom Kennedy and Becky Glewen. He says choosing a favorite elected official is like choosing a favorite ice cream flavor. In his retirement, Somers tells us that he has an opportunity with a municipal software company that will occupy most of his time. His exact department date is still to be determined but it will be no later than April 30.
