9/23/17 – A citizens group calling itself Voices for Vossekuil is demanding that Mayville’s Acting Police Chief Ryan Vossekuil be presented with a contract that “recognizes and rewards his years of service and dedication to the community.” Earlier this month, Vossekuil rejected a contract offer that he considered unfair. On Thursday, Mayor Rob Boelk stated in a press release that the offer from the city was appropriate and officials are now considering other candidates to fill the vacant police chief position. In a press release issued yesterday, Voices of Vossekuil siad they support the Police and Fire Commission’s appointment of Vossekuil as police chief and says the common council failed to provide a fair employment contract. The group notes that Vossekuil grew up in the community and has served 15 years with the Mayville Police Department, working his way up through the ranks, serving on task forces, boards, and committees and receiving numerous certifications and awards. They say Vossekuil has earned the respect of both government leaders and his peers within the law enforcement community and they do not want to lose someone who has played such an integral role in making Mayville one of the safest cities in Wisconsin. The citizens group says it will be at the next Public Safety Committee meeting on Monday at 6pm in Mayville City Hall.
