(Wisconsin) The Wisconsin Ag in the Classroom Program has recognized area students who took part in their Thank a Farmer Contest. Bently, age 6 of Omro was the winner in the Age 6 and under category, Naomi, age 11 of Fox Lake was the winner in the age 10 to 12 category, and Piper, age 5 of Fox Lake was recognized as a runner up in the age 6 and under category.
More than 386 entries were submitted statewide as students took part in the Wisconsin Ag in the Classroom drawing contest. Categories were based on age grouping children age 6 and under, age 7 to 9, and ages 10 to 12. Students needed to submit an original drawing based on the theme Thank a Farmer. Entries were judged by members of the Wisconsin Farm Bureau Promotion and Education Committee, with winners earning themselves an Ag in the Classroom book, and all participants receiving an Ag in the Classroom resource.
Wisconsin Ag in the Classroom is a program to help students K-12 understand the importance of agriculture. The program is coordinated by the Wisconsin Farm Bureau Foundation in cooperation with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, with funding from the Wisconsin Farm Bureau Foundation, other agricultural groups and a grant from the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection.
