Lightning Strike Causes House Fire In The Town Of Westford

(Westford) A lightning strike caused a house fire in the Town of Westford Sunday afternoon. Just after 5pm, the Beaver Dam Fire Department responded to a call at W9904 County Highway CP. Upon arrival, the house had smoke showing from the third floor attic space. Deputy Fire Chief Matthew Christian says the residence, which is owned by Mike and Michelle Ovans, was occupied at the time. He says the fire was called in when Mike saw smoke and an orange glow coming from the attic area. Mike reported that after a loud lightning strike the house lost partial power and he entered the attic space to investigate if the house was hit. Christian says Mike attempted to use a fire extinguisher to put out the blaze. Fire damage was contained to the third floor and roof of the house. There was also minor smoke and water damage. No injuries were reported. The Beaver Dam Fire Department was on scene around one-and-a-half-hours. Assisting at the scene were fire departments from Juneau, Horicon, Randolph, Watertown, Hustisford and Fox Lake as well as the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office and Dodge County Emergency Responds Team.
