Larry Lee Wiersma

Larry Lee Wiersma, age 75 of Beaver Dam, passed away at home on Sunday, October 29, 2023.

A visitation for Larry will take place on Saturday, November 4, 2023, at Cornerstone Funeral & Cremation Services, 135 Keller Blvd., Beaver Dam, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 12:00 p.m. Burial will take place at Cambria Cemetery.

Larry was born on March 15, 1948, to William and Margaret (Williams) Wiersma in Hustisford, WI and attended school in multiple cities including Horicon, WI. 

Larry proudly served his country in the Army during the Vietnam War from 1967-1969 until the time he was wounded during combat.  He later was awarded the Purple Heart.

Larry was employed with Carl Schmitt Construction for most of his working years.  He enjoyed camping with the family, long rides through town and checking on everyone he knew and golf cart rides in the neighborhood.  Along with having many nicknames himself (“Beaver” in the Army, “Dump” during his working years and most beloved “Hollander” for his heritage); he loved giving everyone else nicknames and watching cowboy shows.

He was united in marriage to Janis Nelson on October 31, 1970 in Beaver Dam, WI until her passing in 1986.  Together they had 2 daughters, Jean & Holly.  Years after Janis passed, Larry reconnected with his childhood neighbor, Crystal (Stofflet) Neuman.  They were united in marriage on August 13, 1988 blending his girls with Crystal’s three children, Scott, Jeff and Penni.

Larry is survived by his wife, Crystal, daughters Jean (Chris) Guenterberg of Iron Ridge, Holly (Steve) Stanic of Cedar Falls, Iowa and stepdaughter Penni Neuman (Francisco Baez) of Black Creek, WI; grandchildren Nicholas (Lisa) Neuman, Cassie Neuman, Chelsea (Chad) Kurtz, Shantrel Tinsley, Mason Baez, Alyssa Thebeau, Bradley Thebeau, Brynn Benarek, Miranda Guenterberg, Sophie Stanic and Chase Stanic; great grandchildren Hunter Fenner, Briana Fenner, Sylis Neuman, Carson & Camden Kurtz.

He is further survived by sisters, Catherine Pixler, Linda Neuman, Joyce (Gordon) Henderson and brother Harvey (Lana) Wiersma.  Brothers in law, Rodney (Vicki) Nelson, Don (Heidi) Nelson, Rick Nelson (Hanna Mueller), LaMoyne (Odessa) Stofflet and Steve (Hazel) Stofflet and sister-in-law June Nelson and many nieces and nephews.

Larry is preceded in death by his parents, William & Margaret Wiersma, first wife, Janis (Nelson) Wiersma, step sons Jeff Neuman and Scott Neuman, sisters Shirley Krueger, Mabel Thomas, Alice Evans, Dorothy Whitrock, Mary Becker, Evelyn Leystra; his brothers Henry, James, Willard, William Jr., Howard, Charles and Robert; in laws Wallace & Jean Nelson and Bernard & Bernardean Stofflet and many other dear relatives & friends.

The family would like to thank CommonHeart Hospice, especially Shari, Georgia and Angie.  They provided Larry and the family with exceptional care and emotional support.

Larry was able to take the Badger Honor Flight in 2017 with his daughter, Jean (who also served in the Army).  Being a veteran is always something that he took great pride in.

Memorials may be made in Larry L. Wiersma’s name to Badger Honor Flight.
