Beaver Dam High School has tabbed Doug Kraft as their next boys hockey coach. Kraft, a Beaver Dam native, spent eight seasons coaching youth hockey in Beaver Dam and four years as a high school assistant on Chris Huebel’s Golden Beaver Dam staff from 2014 to 2018.
“The place has always been special to me. I’ve coached a few places now since I’ve left. My heart was really in Beaver Dam the whole time that I was gone. I really missed the connection I had to the place. It was absolutely attractive when it opened up and the opportunity was possibly there for me to return.” Kraft adds “It feels really good to come back and the outpouring of support and the welcome home messages I’ve received in the last few hours has been just so encouraging and so helpful.”
Kraft spent one season as the head boys hockey coach at Stoughton High School for the 2018-19 season before his job transferred him to Missouri. While in Missouri he spent time coaching youth hockey. He says that with the COVID-19 pandemic hitting, his job has gone more virtual, which would allowed him and his family to move back to the Beaver Dam area.
The Golden Beavers went 18-8-2 last season and reached the Sectional Final for the first time in 15 years. Kraft replaces Jose Matamoros who stepped down after two seasons because he moved out of the area.
