Juneau Man Charged With Fleeing Sheriff’s Deputies

(Rubicon) A Juneau man accused of running from authorities made his initial appearance in court Monday. Kenneth Wilkowski is facing a felony charge of Fleeing.

A sheriff’s deputy observed a vehicle heading westbound on Highway 60 squeal its tires and accelerate rapidly near the town of Rubicon. The suspect vehicle was reportedly clocked going 115 miles-per-hour in a 55 mile-per-hour zone.

The deputy initiated a traffic pursuit that continued for just over two miles, reaching speeds of up to 130 miles-per-hour. The vehicle eventually stopped east of Arnold Road. Wilkowski, who was allegedly identified as the driver, was arrested during a high-risk traffic stop.

When questioned, Wilkowski reportedly said he was speeding because he was in a sports car and it’s fun to drive fast. If convicted, the 57-year-old faces up to three-and-a-half years in prison. A signature bond was set at $1,000 and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 21st.
