(Juneau) It looks like Juneau City Hall will be moving. Finance Committee Chair Cheryl Braun announced Tuesday night that representatives with Farmers and Merchants Bank have accepted a $175-thousand dollar offer from the city to purchase their building at 405 Jewel Street. The council alsoapproved borrowing $25-thousand dollars for preliminary renovation work; no word on the final move-in costs. The current city hall at 150 Miller Street, across from the Dodge County Administration Building, is in need of repairs that Mayor Dan Wegener says are not cost-effective. Ground was broken in August on a new Farmers and Merchants Union Bank branch in Juneau. The 2,700-square-foot facility will be located at the intersection of Highway 26 and Western Avenue, next to the Piggly Wiggly. The new bank location is expected to open around June. Wegener says he is looking forward to holding a city council meeting without people being crammed in like sardines.
