Juneau Approves Variance For New Sensient Building

2/15/12 – The Juneau Common Council Tuesday night approved an exemption to their height restriction ordinance for Sensient Flavors. The company will be constructing a new $18 million dollar building beginning in late April. Samuel McCracken, Senior Project Engineer with Sensient, says the new facility will bolster Sensient’s flavors and fragrances division, allowing for increase capacity to produce yeast extract, an item that can be found in everything from crackers and soups to cancer drugs. Because of new regulations, the DNR required Sensient to construct an exhaust stack 113-feet tall. The council last night approved a variance on a 5 to 1 vote. The new facility should be operational by the end of the year.
