5/13/17 – U-S Senator Ron Johnson is on a Republican working group that will try to come up with an agreement on a health care package that party members can support. The Wisconsin lawmaker based his first campaign in 2010 on a promise to repeal Obamacare — and he admits it will be “very difficult” to reach a consensus. Johnson tells the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel there are both good and bad parts of the Obamacare replacement package the House approved. He believes a new system is needed to give tax credits for health coverage, saying the House plan to give less help to low income people while expanding the subsidies to those of higher incomes. Johnson says the best part of the health package is to reduce the proposed level of Medicaid spending, saying it would make the program more fiscally sound.
