Johnny’s Lounge Owner Files Civil Suit Against Beaver Dam

(Beaver Dam) The owner of Johnny’s Lounge filed a civil suit in Dodge County Court Monday against the city of Beaver Dam. Last week, the common council voted to not renew the establishment’s liquor license. Reasons behind the non-renewal include five incidents, three of which have resulted in points assessed against the Madison Street tavern under the city’s Demerit Point Ordinance for liquor license violators. The incidents ranged from serving underage patrons to closing time fights to overserving that resulted in vehicular homicide. Brent Eisberner, a lawyer for Johnny’s Lounge owner Amanda Hammen, notes that several of the allegations have not yet been proven in a court of law. The suit alleges that the Beaver Dam Common Council has abused process by operating with a disregard for municipal and state regulations governing the process. Eisberner writes that the plaintiff was denied the opportunity to present evidence providing mitigation of any alleged violations and even when evidence was presented by other tavern owners it was ignored. The city has 20 days to respond to the civil suit.
