It Is National Stop On Red Week

(DODGE COUNTY) Local safety officials are reminding motorists to stop on red. This week is National Stop on Red Week.

It is when local fire and police departments join across America to raise awareness about the deadly consequences of red-light running.

According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety crash testing, over 11-hundred people were killed and thousands more injured in crashes involving red-light running in 2023.

Nearly half of those killed were pedestrians, cyclists, and people in other vehicles โ€“ and not the driver who ran the red light.

Area first responders encourage all motorists to stop on red and never try to beat the light. They add that it is best to slow down and look both ways before entering an intersection, even if you have the green.

It is also law to yield to emergency vehicles and pull over and stop when you see lights and hear sirens.
