Inmates In Custody After Failing To Return To Dodge County Jail

(Juneau) The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office has announced that two inmates who walked away from the jail in separate incidents are back in custody. Jennifer Petersen was apprehended on Thursday after failing to return from work release after a pre-approved shift. The 39-year-old was serving a 270-day Huber sentence for Theft-False Representation and was scheduled for release on April 11.

Connie Smiley was allowed the leave the facility for a pre-approved appointment on January 30. An arrest warrant was issued when she did not return. The 36-year-old Smiley was serving a 160-day work release sentence at the Dodge County Jail for Contempt of Court.

Sheriff Dale Schmidt says Huber inmates are authorized to leave the jail for work, a medical appointment, community service, educational opportunities and from time-to-time they will fail to return. Schmidt says his office takes such cases seriously and will seek charges against the inmate once they are apprehended.
