OUR DOGS, OURSELVES: The Story of a Singular Bond, Alexandria Horowitz

AUTHOR HAD TO CANCEL…

From Alexandra Horowitz, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Inside of a Dog, an eye-opening, informative, and wholly entertaining examination and celebration of the human-canine relationship for the curious dog owner and science-lover alike.

We keep dogs and are kept by them. We love dogs and (we assume) we are loved by them. We buy them sweaters, toys, shoes; we are concerned with their social lives, their food, and their health. The story of humans and dogs is thousands of years old but is far from understood. In Our Dogs, Ourselves, Alexandra Horowitz explores all aspects of this unique and complex interspecies pairing.
As Horowitz considers the current culture of dogdom, she reveals the odd, surprising, and contradictory ways we live with dogs. We celebrate their individuality but breed them for sameness. Despite our deep emotional relationships with dogs, legally they are property to be bought, sold, abandoned, or euthanized as we wish. Even the way we speak to our dogs is at once perplexing and delightful.

Today we talked about the different kinds of cinnamon; why using pure vanilla extract is best in cooking and baking and the meteor show that is happening tonight. Although the weather doesn’t look too promising around here. Listener called in to say that you can get Mexican vanilla at the Amish store in Dalton and she wouldn’t use any other kind. I had two leftover gifts from June Dairy Month-given by the Dodge County Dairy Promotions (a Ree Drummond Cookbook and decorative casserole dish) as a “birthday” thank to my audience. Linda Greppi and Mike Kasmiski were the winners. Thanks to everyone who phoned in! Recipe shared: Apple Cinnamon Zucchini Muffin. (find it under the Idea Exchange tab)

STORY SPOTLIGHT! Dr. Seuss wrote a book titled: ‘OH THE PLACES YOU’LL GO” and my guest in STORY SPOTLIGHT today has taken Dr. Seuss at his word. You might know Dr. AMANDA SPARKS because of her position at Waupun chiropractic and because she is a frequent guest on BACK TALK-a program on WBEV where she shares information and answers your questions regarding chiropractic issues. However, she is also an inveterate international traveler and she shares her experiences today in STORY SPOTLIGHT. If you missed the interview-check it out on demand at DailyDodge.com

I shared the BEAVER DAM PIGGLY WIGGLY recipe of the week: MVP Chili. And we talked with Marianne from LAMERS  about a trip next March to Charleston and Savannah.
