7/7/11 – The National Weather Service says it’s just now learning how massive last Friday night’s storms were in the Upper Midwest. Meteorologist Todd Krause said the entire storm was rotating almost like an “inland hurricane,” and it came in two different waves in two different areas. Krause said the damage covered hundreds of miles from South Dakota through Minnesota and into Wisconsin. Six tornadoes have been confirmed from the larger system. One of those was near Solon Springs in far northwest Wisconsin. Only one death was reported in the entire storm, and that was also in northwest Wisconsin. 11-year-old Mackenzie Klar of Hinckley Minnesota died after a large tree fell on her while she was running off a play area at a private campground in Burnett County.
