Hostess Liquidation Not Affecting Ol’ Bread Box

The owner of the Ol’ Bread Box thrift store in Fond du Lac says her store is not one of the 570 Hostess Brand outlet stores that will be closed as the company winds down production. Charlene Gessner says she’s familiar with how business decisions can impact people’s livelihoods. She worked for Butternut for 12 years when the then owners decided to close their store in Fond du Lac and she offered to buy it. She says they don’t sell Wonder Bread or other Hostess products with the exception of Dolly Madison snack foods, which are made by Interstate Brands part of the Hostess holdings. She carries other snack foods she can offer the public when her Dolly Madison supplies run out. Gessner says it’s sad to see Hostess going through what they are because people enjoy their snacks. Mr. Karl’s, then Butternut Bread and the Ol’ Bread Box have all operated out of the same location on South Military in Fond du Lac over the past 40 years.
