Horicon Softball Heading To State Title Game

The Horicon High School softball team will play for a state championship after dominating Iola-Scandinavia (19-7) in a 10-0, six-inning victory on Thursday night in the Division Four State Semifinals.

Angelica Bushkie led a balanced offensive attack by going 2×4 with a triple and 4 RBI.  Cyrie Reinwald and Lizzie Gibbs also knocked in a pair of runs for the Marshladies.

Horicon scored single runs in the 1st and 3rd to go up 2-0.  They added a pair of runs in the 4th, one more in the fifth before exploding for five runs in the bottom of the 6th to end the game early.

Gibbs was spectacular in the circle giving up just five hits in six innings worth of work.  Three of those hits came in the 2nd when Iola-Scandinavia loaded the bases with nobody out, but a strikeout and a thrilling 1-2-3 double play got them out of the inning with no damage.

Horicon (22-6) looks for their fifth state championship in program history when they face Grantsburg (21-2) on Saturday morning in the WIAA Division Four State Championship Game.  The Pirates blew by Onalaska Luther 12-4 in their semifinal game.

The D4 Championship Game is scheduled for 10:30am on Saturday at the Goodman Diamond in Madison.  You can hear it on 1430 WBEV.  The audio will stream at DailyDodge.com.
